At this altitude, the air is noticeably cooler and fresher than the city below, the views are panoramic, and the pace of life feels entirely different from the tourist centre.
The Jardim Botânico da Madeira — one of the finest botanical gardens in Europe, with over 2,000 plant species, formal terraces and spectacular viewpoints — is within a short walk.
