The neighbourhood is dotted with traditional quintas, flowering gardens and small cafés that rarely appear on tourist maps.
From The Sky Loft you can reach the centre of Funchal in 10 minutes by car or via bus routes 47 and 48, which stop directly outside the building. The famous Palheiro Gardens — one of the finest botanical gardens on the island — are a 5-minute drive away. Rua do Palheiro, the main road through São Gonçalo, has a supermarket, bakeries and local restaurants within walking distance.
For hikers, the Levada dos Tornos passes through São Gonçalo, offering an easy flat walk with views over Funchal that most tourists never find.
