From Saudade Residence you can walk down to the seafront in 10 minutes, reaching the beachside restaurants, the village market building (one of the finest neoclassical structures in Madeira) and the pier where local fishermen still bring in daily catches. The Teleférico da Bica da Cana cable car station, connecting the coast to the mountain plateau at 1,600 metres, is just 8 km away.
Funchal is 20 km east — a 30-minute scenic coastal drive past the cliffs of Câmara de Lobos (one of Winston Churchill's favourite painting spots).
