Madeira is warm but not tropical — winter nights in hillside properties can drop to 12–15°C. Always check that the property has adequate heating. Many older homes rely on electric heaters only, which can be expensive to run.
If you are renting a car, parking in Funchal city centre is genuinely difficult. Properties in São Gonçalo, Monte or outside the centre almost always include private parking — ask specifically before booking.
WiFi quality varies enormously on the island. Properties in Funchal and along the southern coast generally have fast fibre broadband. Remote north coast properties may have slower connections. If you work remotely, always ask for the actual speed before booking.
